Mattress shopping can be overwhelming.  Here are a few tips to help you save time and ensure you are on track for the perfect mattress

How long should my mattress last?

As a rule of thumb for mattress replacement, we usually say 8 to 10 years.  Dead skin cells and bacteria get inside mattresses which is not the most hygienic situation.  Back pain, sagging, or other comfort issues are signs a new mattress may be in the works.

Generally, new mattresses will last around 10 years.  Most mattresses the Furniture Mall sells have a 10-year warranty.  But many options are available with longer warranties lasting 10 to 15 years, and Tempur-pedic can extend 20 to 25 years.

A couple of ideas to extend the life of your mattress are to use a waterproof mattress protector and to rotate the mattress 180-degrees.  Rotating the mattress every six months will reverse the direction of your main body points (shoulders and hips).

What technology be considered?

Mattresses have come way in the last 10 to 15 years.  New technology has helped mattresses last a lot longer, increase support, and now many offer temperature control technology that adjusts to how hot or cold you sleep.

Are mattress stores greedy?

The majority of our mattress selection are price protected.  The manufacturer has a set price, which is the same price in every single store across the country.  We actually aren't able to change the price, we're not able to lower the price, make it higher at all.  Mattress stores really aren't greedy, we don't pick the prices of our mattresses.

What’s my budget?

Mattress can range from a few hundred to thousands of dollars.  It’s important to have a budget in mind, but be open to learning about new advancements and products that may help your sleep health.  Mattresses have changed so it’s important to test different options; memory foam versus coils versus hybrids, all of which are available at The Furniture Mall.
