The holiday season is one of the most exciting times of the year. Whether you are celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or something else, it is an opportunity to be with family and friends while remembering what really matters in life. It can also be a time when it feels like everyone is trying their best to get into the holiday spirit. When decorating your home for this joyous time of year, you want everything to feel just right - from the holiday palette that will set the mood for your decorations to the holiday dishes you'll have on hand during gatherings with loved ones. You may find it difficult at first because there are so many options available!

We hope this article helps make things easier by giving you holiday decorating ideas to ensure that your holiday palette is just right.

A Dash of Red and Green

The classic Christmas colors, red and green, have been used to celebrate for centuries. The roots can be traced back to the Celtic people, who revered holly as a little sprig of Earth during the frigid chill of winter. There have been various other contributions to the popularity of the colors, but chances are, your palette will be popular with this color combo. Of course, you usually don't buy an evergreen couch with a matching crimson armchair (unless you're into that), but little accents of the colors especially with white furniture, will give off a nice holiday feel.

Blue, White, and Silver for That Winter Wonderland

A well-matched holiday palette of blue, white, or silver can look crisp yet cozy at the same time. They are also the colors of Hannukah. While, there is no record definitely confirming the origins of the colors, but one can assume it came from the colors of Israel's flag. White and silver furniture looks clean, while blue adds that little pop of personality. Blue accessories are nice touches, as well as having a blue accent chair. White is already a popular color for furniture, but it is also the most easily stained by a stray cocoa spill, beware.

Gray, Green, and Cream for a Transitional Holiday Look

If you are looking to slowly ease into the next holiday season, gray, green and cream is a great transitional palette. These colors are often seen together in nature--think Ghost of Christmas Present from A Christmas Carol--so it only makes sense to use them as a palette for your holiday decorations. The colors can be used in any room with furniture of any color. You can also add pops of other holiday colors by using accessories, but we recommend sticking to one or two other colors at most.

Accessories that Add the Perfect Holiday Touch

When it comes to holiday decorating, holiday furniture is a great place to start. However, there are other touches you can add through accessories that will make your home feel festive and put everyone in the holiday spirit. Greenery such as wreaths or garlands brings nature into the room while giving off holiday vibes. Holiday candles also give off inviting holiday warmth without being too holiday-specific. Finally, holiday pillows and throws are great ways to add pops of holiday color without going overboard or making your home feel cluttered with holiday decor.
