Welcome to the Furniture Mall Tips and Tricks. I am Sarah Williams, visual story teller. Today we're talking about designing a farmhouse fireplace.
We have this great rustic fireplace that we'll work from. We'll start with the mirror as our focal point. Mirrors are so useful for letting extra light in, creating more sparkle, and can really uplift a dark room.
We've layered our mirror with a great green wreath. Wrap a cord or string around the wreath and a attach to a Command hook on the back of the mirror. Drape the wreath over the front and add a pretty floral to dress it up if you'd like. The wreath provides you with the opportunity to switch it up with whatever color blooms you want to add, or leave just as it is for an easy neutral that will go with anything.
The Farmhouse look isn't complete without a little chalkboard styling, so we'll use a couple of these menu boards on either side. Let your creativity be the guide to creating a very personal look for your home to tell your story. Write messages, favorite sayings from within the household on these, add a couple wreaths if you wish to carry that look down, or just take a couple of green topiaries from around the house and layer them together.
We have a great look that's a lot of fun and creates a conversation point for your home, but it wouldn't be finished if we didn't look to the base of the fireplace, to look at it as a whole.
What do you do with a fireplace that doesn't work, or you just don't use for building a fire that often? There's a lot that you can do. What we'll do today with this space is take some great galvanized buckets and fill them with some greens to carry our look down.
Start with some greenery that drapes, helping create a nice, soft and romantic feel. Add a couple large hydrangea bloom and snowballs for color. Right now we have a great balance, symmetrical setting, but we'll add a couple extra unique pieces that could be unique to your home, just to create a little more interest.
Lanterns are a great way to showcase personal mementos that are extra special. Don't forget to add a home to keep your cozy knits tidy.
